The wind, 50 surf-ski’s and 24 SUP’s showed up for an awesome Brian’s Kayak’s downwind event from Millers Point to Fish Hoek. Huge respect to a few new-comers to down-winding – Just Jinger singer, Aard Mathews, Megan Smith and Lizanie Teron who took on the 11km challenge. The field was stacked with competitive paddlers and the SUP’s saw Gary van Rooyen lead from start to finish (in fact, he arrived too early for the photographers and almost too early for the organizers to put down the finish line, in 53 minutes 23 seconds.) Second and third was a real tussle between another two legends, Adrian van Varick and Armin Wohlgemuth, with the latter edging out his rival in the waves at Fish Hoek. First lady home was Diva, Monika Wohlgemuth who took out the women’s and divas section with a great display of paddling and Megan Smith in second spot. On the surf-ski side, it was legend Paul Marais and Ian Black in their double who slaughtered the field.
