Wow! The power of communities.

The Xpression Team were absolutely blown away and humbled by the support from our surf and Sup groups as well as the locals that have always supported our Café. Down south has been looking for a good, clean music venue for ages, and here it is. Remember the old Hout Bay Hotel and Saturday afternoon Brass Bell vibe? Well, it just arrived in your hood. Saturday 15th started off with the usual coffee and breakfast suspects and a hint of rain. The pizza oven waited and warmed up patiently. And then it happened! People arrived in their droves to listen to local boy and talented musician Liam McDermott and the cool sounds of The Shay Grey band. The pizza orders went ballistic – from zero at 12h30 to fifty orders at 13h00. We are still apologising for delays – a huge lesson in systems and timing, but we will get better.

Anyway, a few beers and a glass of wine normally fuzzy’s the waiting time and folks just generally had a great time. We will be putting out the music schedule shortly, but plan to host musicians every second weekend. Weather permitting.

Our big focus areas for the Café are bagels, pizza’s, burgers and poke bowls. Then, of course we boast the best Barista (Tinashe) on the strip. On the retail front, we have added lots of new and exciting products. Lessons, rentals, parties and functions remain high on our agenda and we have now added the board storage element that takes the hassle out of carting your board to and from home. In a few weeks, we will have the premium AK Durable Supply Company showroom up and running, specialising in top end Empire long boards, wings, foils, boards and accessories. Watch that space!

PS – The railway gate is apparently awaiting spare parts and should be open shortly!

A huge thank you to Candace, Chelsea, Lynn, Marq, Sadie, Sinda, Ryan, Evette and the X-Café team for pulling out all of the stops to get us ready.
